Cocaine is a very addictive drug and experimentation often leads to abuse of the drug.

What happens if I consume cocaine while I am pregnant:

Cocaine crosses the placenta and enters your baby's circulation. The baby is slower than you in getting rid of cocaine. The cocaine remains in your baby's body much longer than it does in your body.

How can cocaine affect my unborn baby:

In early months of pregnancy it cause Miscarriage

later in pregnancy it causes Placental abruption and leads to

• Severe bleeding
• Preterm birth
• Fetal death

Frequent use cause Birth defect, Preterm labour, Small head, Growth retardation, Defects of Genitals, Kidneys and Brain. 

Babies exposed to cocaine later in pregnancy may be born Cocaine Dependent and suffer from withdrawal symptoms such as tremors, sleeplessness, muscle spasms, and difficulties feeding.

Learning difficulties may result as the child gets older.

What if I consumed cocaine before I knew I was pregnant:

There is no conclusive evidence that single dose of cocaine during pregnancy is harmful to the baby. Birth defects and other side effects are usually a result of prolonged use, but because studies are inconclusive, it is best to avoid cocaine altogether.
